second-to-last friday

July 24, 2009

I was stupid today and didn’t bring my new stuff in to scan during portfolio class. I have a few color photos and some black and white selfs that I want to post… but no. So, after this post I’ll put up a few old things- I mean, I don’t have any photos on here at all.

It’s cold and rainy in Boston today :( I hope I don’t get a cold. My jeans are all wet and are making my feet feel icky. We’re taking the T in an hour to go to the Robert Klein gallery, then in handmade books we’re going to the Houghton Library. I’m pretty excited for that, I mean, we get to see a bunch of old books and stuff!

I’m thinking I’m going to apply mainly to liberal arts colleges instead of art schools.. :O I really want to do English lit. What I’ll do for a living is up in the air.. maybe a librarian. Being around books all day seems like heaven to me :) I really want to go to school in Boston, so I’m looking at Tufts. Boston College seemed cool until I found out it was Catholic. Idk. I wish I was smart enough to go to Brown; maybe I’ll just take a shot in the dark and apply. I really.really.really need to get a better score on my SAT- especially math. I’m going to have to buckle down this fall!

Mkay. Gonna upload some photos now.

redo

July 17, 2009

It’s been a while- I’m at camp in Boston. For a month (since July 5th, until August 1st.) In my portfolio prep class she said that having a blog is a really good thing to do to put yourself out there. So, I’m going to make this my photoblog!

So far I do not have internet in my room (I’m getting it fixed soon, tomorrow hopefully) which is why I haven’t been updating. It’s really been killing me! But oh well.

Most people here are nice. I feel like crap next to the other photographers, but oh well. I’m having fun and learning a lot. Like, a lot. I have basically my whole senior year mapped out for college.

I miss Devon a lot, though :(

My room mate and my other two friends here went to see Harry Potter yesterday. It was so. good. I want to see it again now, and I can’t wait for the next one..(s)

Mkay well I’m trying to upload crap to flikr and it’s taking forever. I guess I’ll upload some black and whites here now?

hi all

July 1, 2009

Today was a good day :)

I got up and did a lot of yoga. Immediately after I saw Transformers 2 with Sammie. I love talking to Sam, she’s so nice and always has something to say, and you know, I love to listen. The movie was good if a little long, but it was an excellent sequel to the first one (which was awesome!) However, my favorite part of the movie was seeing the Harry Potter 6 trailer!!! I CAN’T WAIT FOR THAT MOVIE. Honestly, if they don’t let me see it at camp, I will cry. And I’ll sacrifice a day of touring Boston freely with my mom to see that thing as soon as I’m checked out.

As soon as the movie got out Devon texted me, so Sam was nice enough to drop me off at Market Street so I could see him (he was at a restaurant with his parents.) I spent the rest of the afternoon with him (in pure love-bliss), then he took me home. My dad came and we went out to eat at Applebee’s.

Came home. I redid my portfolio for the prep class I’m taking. I was going to do ballet, but my mom came home too early, and I stalled and now I don’t really want to do it at twelve. I think I’ll just wake up early (going to sleep early…) and do it in the morning before yoga.

Tomorrow Devon and I are having a vegan picnic dinner. I’m going to make “choco” chip cookies, banana waffles, steam some veggies (or make corn if it isn’t bad) and have some strawberries and apples. Yummy, right? I think so :)

yoga& bread& stuff

June 29, 2009

I made vegan bread for the first time this morning! I have to say, I like it a lot more than my old bread. It rose a lot more and is nice and fluffy (or airy? idk, not as thick.) My old bread was sort of vegan, I guess, but it had honey. Although I could have easily substituted the honey for agave, but y’know… This recipe was nice because it didn’t required as much time for kneading, rising, and it even baked quicker and still produced two loaves. My last recipe required SO MUCH rising time and I had to knead it for 20 minutes if I wanted two loaves! So it was a bit of a hassle…

Last night I also made the most adorable stuffed elephant! I named him Cedric :3 If I take pictures of him I’ll post. I used this pattern.

I think I’m going to take the SAT again this year.. ugh. Thankfully I know I won’t have to take the ACT again. I’m also considering taking the English Subject Tests as well, I mean, I got a 710 on the English part of my SAT, so I know I’ll do well on it. Just have to study! I think I’ll take them December 5th. I wish they had the AP test days up..!

I told Devon I would help him coordinate all of his applications and things for college. So far he wants to apply to 13 different colleges; I’m hoping that I can convince him not to apply to a couple that I know he doesn’t like as much. My dad said that now they have a “common application,” which I’m thankful for- he won’t have to write a bunch of different essays. I need to find all of my deadlines, too… I think they’ll have them posted my August or September.

UGH college! I’m thankful it’s senior year, but I have all this stuff to think about….!!!

My mom gave me some of her old yoga sequences from yoga journal, I’m about to go try them out (hence the title :D)

another post today

June 28, 2009

I got some photo work done today, yay me! Went shopping at Urban Outfitters, dropped off my film, wrote to my penpal, exercised a bit… watched HP5, and uploaded all my stuff onto my Mac so I don’t have anything missing during camp. Now I just need to make a decent portfolio and edit some of my macro pictures.. I have like 40 pictures from my first run with my macro lens, and I bet half of them are suitable. I just haven’t looked.

I’ll work tomorrow, it’s too late now :)

I’m trying to figure out how to get a sunburn off of one of my sims on the sims 2. I have a bunch of ideas, so I’ll try them tonight I guess :(

Ever since I saw the episode about freegans on Oprah, so long ago (when I actually still watched Oprah with my mom after school,) I’ve been sort of interested in it. I wonder if there’s freegans here? I really doubt it… in fact I would be scared to go dumpster diving here. Sure, our crime rate is probably like nil- I think the most crime we have are car accidents, drunk driving, and people getting drug busted. I highly doubt there’s anything really serious (break ins, kidnapping, murder, rape and such.) But I would be scared because of all the crazy drivers, and plus people ARE so easy to freak out around here, especially the cops- dumpster diving just wouldn’t be allowed. Everything is perfect here, or at least it has to seem that way..!

I mean, I mentioned drug busts, so obviously my town is not perfect. It’s so perfect it has to have drugs, if you know what I mean. And crazy/drunk driving is a problem, so yeah.

But if I lived in Houston, freeganism would be cool, since there actually are visible dumpsters… The freegan website looked really cool. Of course, the emphasis was on NYC.

I really hope I can go to NY for college. SVA looks better and better. I think they’re having a portfolio review day in Austin this year, maybe I’ll go to that and skip the New York trip? While it would be freakin’ awesome to go to New York and interview at Lang and get a portfolio review at Parsons, the chances of me actually going there is slim. Plus, I don’t know if my parents want to pay for it… I know it’s expensive. I think, then, that I’ll just do the portfolio review with SVA in Austin and just apply and hope for the best with Lang/Parsons :( I would love to do the dual degree there.

My mom still wants me to go to the Art Institute of Austin. Ugh. I mean, I wouldn’t say no, but it’s sort of a last resort…

I wonder, if I told my dad I was looking at SCAD, would he take me there? Just to visit. Maybe over Thanksgiving?

I don’t think I’m going to apply for SAIC. I’m really not interested in living in Chicago at all. I’m thinking, SCAD, AIB, Parsons/Lang, SVA, and Austin if I absolutely have to.

June 26, 2009

Yesterday I didn’t do much except make cupcakes. They were marbled cupcakes, and I was exceptionally proud of how pretty they turned out- not to mention, they were delicious.

So yeah. Not expecting to do much today. Maybe I’ll venture outside.

Oh yeah- Farrah Fawcett and MJ dying? How crazy. Have they found out what caused the cardiac arrest yet?
Made me very sad :(

first post

June 25, 2009

This is my first post. I expect it to be pretty bland, considering first posts- at least in my experience- are generally awkward. Should I “introduce” myself? Should I just write like it’s any other post? Me, I’ll choose the latter. Pretend like any readers have known me for years and know everything about my life already.

Well, Devon has been gone at camp three days. He drank a Red Bull for the first time and called me. Not surprisingly, he was really hyper. Apparently, he was dancing to LCD Soundsystem. I cringe at the thought of him drinking that crap, and told him so. Of course he didn’t listen to me :) “They’re okay every once in a while, right!”

My mom and I went to Target today, and that’s about all I did. I managed to get a few things for my camp, like sheets, but not much else.

What I did do all day was attempt to download music. I JUST finished downloading the last album and I’ve been doing this since… 5? Let’s see, I got:

LCD Soundsystem’s first album, Daft Punk’s Discovery, Royksopp’s Melody AM, Hybrid’s I Choose Noise, Zero 7’s Simple Things, The Postal Service’s Give Up, and The Field’s From Here We Go Sublime. As you can tell, I’m sort of liking electronica-ish stuff right now :)

I’m slowly transitioning into veganism. I managed to find a recipe for vegan bread and vegan croissants, and lists of vegan foods in stores. I realized- with horror- that most of the baked goods and frozen meat replacements I buy still have eggs and milk in them! I figure I’ll eat those up and then buy vegan things next time.

This morning I learned that at one point a vegan tuna replacement did exist, but that Kellogg/Morningstar bought the company and discontinued it! I was incredibly disappointed, considering I’ve been wanting a tuna substitute for most of my veg life- 3 years :( I actually sent an email to Kellogg, acting on the suggestion of this guy.

Oh and this was interesting, mainly because it made me recall my US history teacher’s description of Kim Jong Il: “..and now North Korea is headed by this crazy guy, who’s trying to get missiles and nuclear weapons and stuff.” I think that’s a perfect description, to be honest. “North Korea recently threatened to “wipe out” the United States if provoked.” Lawl. Okay, North Korea. I’m not going to sound too sarcastic in case they do actually do something (like, blowing up Hawaii on July 4th?)

Tomorrow I’m attempting to make the vegan marble cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World. The s’mores cupcakes I made were absolutely dee-lish, so I’m excited to make these! I’ll take pictures, too, if I remember to charge my camera :)
